Today
I’m officially beginning training for the 5k I am scheduled to run in June. I
started and stopped several times over the last two months, the excuse being
mainly the weather, which is a good excuse this year. But if I’m going to be in
any kind of shape to run this thing, then snow or not, I need to start running.
That got me thinking:
What
do you call a runner who doesn’t run? Not a runner.
I’ve
noticed the same correlation with my writing. It’s real easy to come up with
loads of excuses why I’m too busy, or why I can’t write right now, and many of
those excuses are valid. But if I don’t do something, even just a little,
nothing is going to get accomplished.
What
do you call a writer who doesn’t write? Not a writer.
Sobering
thought.
Is there anyone besides me who needs to get in better shape?
And speaking of running:
Dead and Moaning in Las Vegas: Black Elvis, a drunken janitor, and a stripper embark on an epic quest to not become zombie food when the undead apocalypse rocks Las Vegas.

If you haven't checked these guys out yet, you need to. They are hilarious.
Hey Melanie. How are you? I am always in awe of people who love to run. I often joke with my friends, when they ask me to come running, that I only run if someone is chasing me. It's not my thing. But I do desperately need to get in shape. Both in my writing life and in my physical body. I hope like heck I can finally start writing and working out again. Thankfully, I just got my stitches out, but I am still a little sore. I am really looking forward to being all healed up and ready to go!!
ReplyDeleteSnow or no snow, get out there and do it!
ReplyDeleteAnd whether I want to or not, I'm both a runner and a writer.
My running has suffered this winter. I swore only ice and super cold would keep me inside. Then all winter we had ice and super cold. Getting back out there into it slowly. Haven't run a race in years but I always enjoyed them. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a runner either, although I've done it off and on my whole life. I love my treadmill but I've grown lazy and prefer to walk so I can play games on my phone.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a runner at all. But I do exercise regularly. I do what I like - yoga and dance aerobics. I exercise in the house, so I have no excuses. I write almost every day. Look at all those titles you have up on your header... that looks very writerly to me.
ReplyDeleteI never could get into running...even as a younger man. Meh, just point me to the weight bench and I'll be o.k :)
ReplyDeleteGreat analogy with writing, though, and I need to get back into better shape both physically as well as .....writerly(?)
