IWSG

First Wednesday of the Month

Today is the first Wednesday of the month, which makes it IWSG time. Thanks to Alex J. Cavanaugh and co-hosts for putting this on each month.

Today I’m dealing with one of my biggest insecurities: Advancing Technology

Some people get technology like it’s second nature to them. I am not one of those people. I’d be more comfortable in a cabin deep in the woods plunking away at an old Remington than where I am now: in an office on a computer that scares the begesus out of me.  It’s not an unusual occurrence in my house to hear me call out for help to my seventeen year old when I get stuck on something computer/device related. She rolls her eyes and pushes a couple buttons and goes on her way. In a way I’m proud of this. I love that I haven’t conformed to this changing society. But that pride doesn’t help me much when I’ve hit send for the thousandth time and nothing happens. Am I alone here?

  1. I'm nearly hopeless when it comes to technology and I don't have kids. Help!

  2. I grasp most of it, but I'm always calling on my husband to help me.

  3. I just moved to a new house, and ever since then my printer has been giving me trouble. Everyone assumes I'm tech savvy because I'm young and write about science, but I haven't got a clue how to fix this, and it's really thrown a monkey into the wrench for all my writing projects.

  5. I'm not bad with most technology, but some things leave me stumped. That's what my boyfriend is for!

  6. I know how to do most of what I have to do but sometimes I get frustrated. My kids help me with my smartphone but I usually help them with computer stuff.

  7. Unfortunately, I revel in technology, so no problems there. It's social media that has me baffled!

  8. LOL! I'm married to a techie. Even so, I've got my own pride and Google. Between those two I try at least a couple solutions before breaking down and begging for help.

  9. I sympathize with you. Technology of any kind is trouble for me. I'm just now learning to text on the cell. See how pathetic I am.

  10. Opposites attract! I love my computers. I love my gadgets. My dear hubby, not so much.

  11. I usually enjoy technology a great deal, but it can be so frustrating when it doesn't work well or isn't intuitive for you.

  12. I don't think there's much to be done other than keeping a tech helper on hand.

  13. Sometimes it isn't you--it's these buggy websites. But I'm glad you have your daughter around to help!

  14. No, you're not alone. At times I feel like the machines are out to destroy me!
